Artemis was the Greek goddess of the hunt, the wilderness, nature, vegetation, childbirth, care of children, and chastity. She was the daughter of Zeus and Leto, and the twin sister of Apollo. Artemis was a popular goddess, especially with the rural population. Her character and function varied across different regions, but she was generally associated with wild nature.
